I took some time tonight to read the Rolling Stone report "A Rape on Campus" and then the follow up article "UVA Suspends Fraternities Following Rolling Stone Campus Rape Investigation." I read the NIC President's response to the decision here and also read over both Phi Kappa Psi's National office response as well as the individual chapter's response.
After reading through this disturbing incident, I wanted to ask the following questions to my Higher Ed. peers...
1. Have you discussed this with your current students? Alumni? Faculty? Staff? If not, why not?
2. When will the
3. Are you satisfied with 3 commissions and over 18 month to come up with recommendations? If yes, why?
4. Punish the rapist, not the fraternities? The rapist(s) were part of what when this occurred?
5. When will one of you (individual or organization) watch the documentary Raw Deal: A Question of Consent and turn it into a leadership curriculum discussion?
6. Do any of you know how many institutions have suspended all Greek organization activity for a certain amount of time in the past 2-3 years? What have been the results? Good? Bad? No impact?
